From June 14 to June 19, the academic conference of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) — the 21st International Congress on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering — was held in Austria. During the conference, Liu Songyu, a distinguished professor at Southeast University, was honored with the ISSMGE Outstanding Innovator Award. ISSMGE President Marc Ballouz presented him with the certificate, making Liu Songyu the first Chinese recipient of this award since its inception.

The International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering was founded in 1936 by Terzaghi, known as the “father of soil mechanics,” and currently has 92 member countries. The Outstanding Innovator Award is selected every four years, with one recipient per session, honoring an individual or team that has achieved unprecedented and significant accomplishments in the global fields of geotechnical engineering technology, research, and education. Liu Songyu received this honor for his outstanding innovative contributions to sustainable development technologies, including variable?cross?section T?shaped bidirectional mixing technology, pneumatic ground treatment and reinforcement, and synergistic carbon sequestration and ground reinforcement technologies.
